Overnight Major Global Events Driving Sentiment
- US-Iran War: US President Donald Trump has demanded that Iran compensate the US for deaths caused by the conflict, after Tehran renewed its call for reparations as part of negotiations to end the war. Trump said the demand would be firmly included in any future talks, reducing hopes of an immediate agreement and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the Middle East conflict and the Russia-Ukraine war have disrupted refinery operations and tightened diesel supplies in Europe and the US, pushing prices higher. Iran and Oman are negotiating to reopen the Strait, but Tehran said the US must first lift its blockade and compensate Iran for damages. Before the war, the waterway handled around one-fifth of global oil and LNG shipments.
