Galaxy Surfactants shares hit the 20% upper circuit on Friday, touching a fresh 52 week high after the CEO raised profit guidance.

The move followed an interview where managing director K Natarajan spoke to about the company’s April-June quarter.

Net profit more than doubled to around Rs 166 crore compared to the same period last year, a rise of 108%.

Natarajan said the quarter benefited from tier-1 volumes in India bouncing back, adding that “everything fell in place” this time around.

Riding that momentum, Galaxy Surfactants raised its full year EBITDA guidance to Rs 24,000-25,000 per tonne, up from its earlier range of Rs 19,000-21,000 per tonne.

The company still expects volume growth of 6-8% for FY27, supported by steady demand at home and a slow recovery in markets abroad.

There was more good news for shareholders too. At its 40th annual general meeting, the company approved a final dividend of Rs 22 per share for FY26.

Not every region performed the same way this quarter. India grew in low single digits. Sales volumes fell in Africa, the Middle East and Turkey.

The rest of the world business grew in mid single digits. That cushioned the blow from the weaker regions. Put together, overall volumes rose in the mid single digits from a year ago.

Raw material costs haven’t gone away, though. The price of fatty alcohol, a key input for the company, rose to $2,806 per tonne this quarter from $2,751 in the previous quarter.

Despite that, margins still expanded, helped by a better product mix and pricing decisions. The stock had already gained 3.36% in the previous session to close at Rs 2,090.40.

As of 10:10 am on Friday, shares were locked at the upper circuit, trading at Rs 2,508.40, up 20% for the day.
