The DDA has approved the Master Plan for Delhi 2047, setting a long-term growth roadmap for the capital over the next two decades.
Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu chaired the meeting where the plan got the green light. It now heads to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for final approval and official notification.
Housing is a major piece of this. The DDA has cleared a policy letting owners of old two-storey DDA-built homes, in colonies like Naraina Vihar, rebuild or redevelop their units.
Many of these properties date back to the 1962 master plan and are now over five decades old, structurally worn out in several cases. Transport gets a boost as well.
The authority approved a land-use change for a 19.63-hectare metro depot in Narela, which will support the upcoming Rithala-Kundli metro corridor.
That line is meant to connect north-west Delhi, Rohini and Narela with nearby parts of Haryana. Construction approvals are getting simpler too.
Builders will no longer need to chase early no-objection certificates from bodies like the Delhi Pollution Control Committee or the Delhi Jal Board just to get a basic building permit.
That single change alone should cut down on delays that have frustrated developers for years.
On the environmental front, a plot in Gazipur is being converted from a commercial freight complex into a site for a Waste-to-Energy plant, meant to help manage the city’s waste and cut pollution.
Nearby land is being turned into a park to offset that industrial footprint.
The plan also opens up a 24,400 square metre plot near Sarojini Nagar for residential use, previously locked for rail transport purposes, along with the denotification of the Mangolpuri and Keshopur industrial areas.
None of this is final yet though. The plan still needs sign-off from the central ministry before it becomes Delhi’s official blueprint.
