Nestle is building high-protein foods and supplements for the millions now on GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy.

Millions of people are on weight-loss drugs now, and that’s supposed to be bad news for a food giant like Nestle. Fewer snacks bought, fewer shakes sold, but Nestle doesn’t see it that way.

Chief Technology Officer Stefan Palzer told sources the company is “well positioned with the portfolio” and called it a huge opportunity, not a threat.

The bet is straightforward: people on drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy still need to eat, just differently.

That’s because these drugs come with side effects. Rapid weight loss often means losing muscle too, along with dehydration and changes to facial fat, something the internet has nicknamed “Ozempic face.” Nestle wants to sell people the fix for that.

The company is running clinical research through AI systems to find nutrient combinations that help. Palzer said Nestle identified two micronutrients it has industrialised that help muscle tissue grow back faster after weight loss.

The company has also patented ingredients meant to curb the rebound hunger people often feel once they stop GLP-1 treatment.

Some of this is already for sale. Nestle’s US arm launched the Boost Advanced Nutrition Shake, built around 35 grams of protein.

In Asia and Australia, it introduced Milo PRO High Protein, a higher-protein spin on the classic malt drink. Its Vital Proteins line has started adding collagen too, aimed at skin and hair concerns tied to fast weight loss.

Nestle is also testing AI-driven consumer simulations to predict how shoppers will respond to new products before they reach shelves, and using AI to track social media for early signs of emerging food trends.

With GLP-1 use expected to keep climbing through the decade, Nestle is positioning itself early for a customer base that eats less but wants more out of what they do eat.
