Mankind Pharma Signs Exclusive Deal for Two Insulin Analogues

Mankind Pharma
The agreement covers Insulin Degludec and an Insulin Degludec + Aspart combination.

Shares of Mankind Pharma Ltd were trading with modest gain on signing an exclusive in-licensing and marketing agreement with China’s Chongqing Chenan Biopharmaceutical Co. Ltd. for the commercialisation of two insulin analogues in India.

The agreement covers Insulin Degludec and an Insulin Degludec + Aspart combination, strengthening Mankind Pharma’s presence in the diabetes-care and injectable therapies segment.

Under the agreement, Mankind Pharma will be responsible for bringing the two therapies to the Indian market. Insulin Degludec is a long-acting insulin analogue, while the Degludec + Aspart combination combines long-acting and rapid-acting insulin components. The addition of these products will broaden Mankind Pharma’s existing diabetes portfolio.

The partnership is part of Mankind Pharma’s broader strategy of using global in-licensing partnerships to expand its product pipeline. The company has been increasing its focus on chronic therapies, particularly diabetes, where demand for advanced treatment options continues to grow. Mankind said the agreement will further strengthen its position in the injectable diabetes segment.

Mankind Pharma’s management also highlighted China’s growing biopharmaceutical capabilities. Atish Majumdar, Senior President of Sales and Marketing at Mankind Pharma, said the company plans to continue exploring innovative assets from China through strategic in-licensing arrangements.

The deal also builds on Mankind Pharma’s earlier partnerships in the insulin segment. The company has previously worked on partnerships involving Insulin Aspart and Insulin Degludec, indicating that diabetes care is becoming an increasingly important part of its injectable portfolio.

For Mankind Pharma, the agreement provides an opportunity to expand its presence in India’s large diabetes-care market without having to develop these products entirely through its own research pipeline. It also allows the company to leverage its existing sales and distribution capabilities to commercialise additional specialised therapies.

At 1:35 pm, the shares of Mankind Pharma were trading 0.25% higher at Rs 2,400 on NSE.
