Mumbai-based space-tech startup InspeCity has raised Rs 100 crore in a pre-Series A funding round, as it prepares to move its in-space servicing technology from development and testing to actual orbital missions.
The round was led by Speciale Invest and investor Ashish Kacholia, with participation from Antler Elevate, Antler India, Manish Gandhi, Shastra VC and other investors.
Founded in 2022 by Arindrajit Chowdhury, InspeCity is developing technologies that can allow spacecraft to inspect, approach, dock with and eventually service other satellites in orbit. The company is targeting applications such as satellite life extension, in-orbit maintenance and space-debris management.
The fresh capital marks an important shift for the startup. InspeCity plans to use the funding for flight qualification and scaling its commercial activities, while moving its technologies towards actual space deployment.
The company plans to conduct four in-orbit missions over the next 12 to 18 months, with each mission designed to demonstrate increasingly complex capabilities.
The company’s immediate focus is its RIG, or Remote Inspection and Guidance, platform. The first two missions are expected to demonstrate rendezvous and proximity operations, which involve an autonomous spacecraft approaching and navigating around another spacecraft. These missions will provide the foundation for more advanced servicing operations.
InspeCity is also developing VEDA, or Vehicle for Life Extension and Deorbiting Activities, an autonomous platform designed to approach and service satellites.
The broader technology stack includes propulsion, sensing and navigation systems, robotic manipulation, autonomous operations, docking and in-orbit refuelling capabilities.
The company plans to progressively demonstrate a “handshake” in space, docking and eventually more advanced servicing operations through its upcoming missions.
Its longer-term objective is to create infrastructure that can extend satellite lifespans and reduce the need to replace spacecraft when they run out of fuel or face certain operational problems.
The fundraise comes at a time when India’s private space ecosystem is attracting increasing investor attention. Indian space-tech startups raised around $113 million across 25 funding rounds between January and July 2026, according to data cited by Moneycontrol. The successful orbital launch of Skyroot Aerospace has also provided further momentum to the sector.
InspeCity’s technology addresses an emerging challenge as the number of satellites in orbit increases. Extending the operating life of existing spacecraft could reduce replacement costs, while autonomous inspection and servicing systems could eventually help manage malfunctioning satellites and orbital debris.
For InspeCity, however, the next phase will involve significant technical and commercial challenges. Successful orbital demonstrations, reliable autonomous navigation, docking accuracy, regulatory approvals and the ability to convert the technology into commercial servicing contracts will be important milestones.
