Orient Bell has invested ₹1.07 crore in a wind solar hybrid power project, with all three of its manufacturing plants now running on clean energy.
The tile maker has partnered with Jamnagar Renewables Two Private Limited for this venture.
Under the arrangement, Orient Bell has signed a Power Consumption Agreement along with a Share Purchase and Shareholders Agreement with its renewable energy partner.
This gives the company access to 1 megawatt of combined wind and solar power for its own use, through what’s called the medium term open access route, which basically lets a company buy renewable power directly rather than depending only on the regular grid.
This power will specifically supply Orient Bell’s plant located in Dora, Gujarat. Commercial supply of this electricity officially began on 1 September 2026, the same day the company made this announcement.
The agreements signed as part of this deal give Orient Bell both a share in the renewable energy company and a direct pathway to consume the power it generates, rather than simply buying electricity as a customer.
What makes this move significant is what it means for the company as a whole. With this Gujarat facility now getting renewable power, all three of Orient Bell’s manufacturing plants are running on clean energy.
The company has framed this as part of a broader effort to cut down its reliance on conventional power sources and lean more into sustainable operations across its manufacturing base.
This isn’t happening in isolation either. Companies across India’s manufacturing and building materials space have been increasingly turning to renewable energy tie ups like this one, both to manage rising power costs and to work toward sustainability targets that many businesses are now setting for themselves.
Open access renewable power in particular has become a popular route for manufacturers looking to lock in more predictable electricity costs over the long run, compared to relying entirely on conventional grid supply.
For a company like Orient Bell, powering its full manufacturing footprint with renewable energy also marks a meaningful shift in how it approaches its long term energy strategy.
