Gaja Alternative Asset Management has received SEBI approval to register Gaja Capital India Fund V as a Category II Alternative Investment Fund.

The company disclosed this to the stock exchanges on September 1, confirming that it will act as the investment manager for the new fund.

Category II AIFs are typically used for private equity and debt investments, and unlike some other fund categories, they are not allowed to use leverage or borrowing beyond what is needed for routine operations.

Gaja Capital India Fund V will run for 10 years starting from its initial closing. The company has also built in flexibility, with the option to extend the fund’s life by up to two additional one-year periods if needed.

At this stage, the filing does not reveal how much money the fund plans to raise, what it intends to invest in, or when its initial closing will take place.

Gaja Alternative Asset Management said it would inform exchanges separately if there is any change to the approval status, such as a withdrawal or suspension.

The company described the new fund as part of a broader plan to expand its operations by launching additional funds over time. This development follows a strong financial year for the company.

For the year ended March 2026, Gaja Alternative Asset Management reported revenue of Rs 135.53 crore and a net profit of Rs 79.66 crore, translating to a year on year profit growth of 33.8% and revenue growth of nearly 28%.

The firm’s shareholding pattern shows promoters holding a majority stake of 54.23%, while mutual funds and foreign institutional investors together account for a smaller portion of ownership.

With this SEBI nod in place, Gaja Alternative Asset Management can now move forward with structuring and eventually launching Fund V, adding to its existing lineup of investment vehicles.
