Beauty and wellness firm VLCC raised Rs 110 crore from BlackSoil Capital to expand stores

Beauty and wellness firm VLCC raised Rs 110 crore from BlackSoil Capital to expand stores and launch new products.

The Carlyle-backed firm plans to use this fresh capital for its day-to-day business needs as well as its longer-term growth plans.

That includes rolling out new products, opening more stores, and expanding both its core business and its subsidiaries.

VLCC shared these details in an official statement announcing the deal. For those unfamiliar with the brand, VLCC was started by Vandana Luthra back in 1989.

Over the years, it has grown into a fairly large player in the beauty and wellness space, now present in more than 250 locations spread across over 130 cities.

Its operations aren’t limited to India either, the company also runs businesses in South Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

VLCC’s CEO, Deepak Taluja, said the funding would help the company pursue its growth plans, particularly around new product launches and expanding its store network.

He also pointed to rising demand for organised beauty and wellness services as a reason the company wants to keep building a stronger platform going forward.

Beyond its namesake personal care brand, VLCC also owns Ustraa, a men’s grooming brand it picked up in 2023, along with the VLCC Institute of Beauty and Nutrition, which offers vocational courses in the sector.

On the investor side, Carlyle first took a majority stake in VLCC back in 2022, and Alpha Wave Ventures joined in as an investor in 2025.

Speaking about this latest round, BlackSoil’s Managing Director Ankur Bansal said VLCC’s mix of services, personal care products and international presence puts it in a strong spot to benefit from the growing beauty and wellness market in India.

BlackSoil Capital itself works as an alternative credit platform, combining an NBFC registered with the RBI and an AIF registered with SEBI. The firm currently manages assets worth $275 million.
