Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced the launch of India’s first AI-powered lights-out factory lab in Pune. 

TCS has launched the Industrial Autonomy & Engineering Lab, Lights-Out Factory, at its Sahyadri Park campus in Pune. The facility is designed to demonstrate how factories can use AI, robotics, digital twins and real-time operational systems to run production with minimal human intervention.

The Pune facility has a fully robotic battery pack assembly line, making it India’s first lab to demonstrate lights-out manufacturing principles. TCS plans to use the facility as a controlled environment where manufacturers can test, validate and scale AI-first production systems before deploying them in actual factories.

The lab will focus on several industrial applications, including predictive maintenance, automated quality inspection, real-time process optimisation, human-machine collaboration and autonomous factory operations. It will also combine Vision AI, industrial automation, sensor-to-cloud intelligence and software-defined engineering.

The move strengthens TCS’s growing focus on physical AI and industrial automation. Earlier this year, the company launched an Industrial Autonomy & Engineering Lab powered by NVIDIA in Bengaluru to develop Physical AI solutions for industrial and mobility applications.

The latest initiative comes as manufacturers look to adopt AI beyond traditional software applications. TCS says its new facility can help companies move from digitally enabled factories towards increasingly autonomous production while reducing the risks associated with deploying new technologies at scale.
