Ultraviolette to Invest Rs 779 Crore in New Tamil Nadu EV Plant

The company will initially set up an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh electric vehicles at the plant.

Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler maker Ultraviolette Automotive plans to invest around Rs 779 crore over the next five years to build a new manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.

The company will initially set up an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh electric vehicles at the plant, with plans to eventually double it to 5 lakh units as demand grows.

The new facility will strengthen Ultraviolette’s manufacturing capacity as the company prepares to expand beyond its premium electric motorcycle segment and target the mass market. Its existing facility near Bengaluru can produce around 50,000 vehicles annually, which the company believes will not be sufficient to meet expected demand for its upcoming products.

Ultraviolette plans to use the new plant to support the rollout of models such as the Tesseract electric scooter and Shockwave electric motorcycle. The company expects the Tesseract to be priced below Rs 1.5 lakh, while the Shockwave is expected to cost less than Rs 2 lakh.

These models will allow the EV maker to compete more directly with established players in India’s rapidly growing electric two-wheeler market.

The company had earlier signed an agreement with the Tamil Nadu government for a Rs 779 crore investment in an electric two-wheeler manufacturing facility in Krishnagiri.

The project is expected to create around 4,000 jobs and add to the growing EV manufacturing ecosystem around Hosur and Krishnagiri, where companies including Ather Energy and Ola Electric have manufacturing operations.

Ultraviolette’s expansion comes amid strong growth in India’s electric two-wheeler market. Government data shows electric two-wheeler sales crossed 1.03 million units in the first eight months of 2026. McKinsey expects EVs to account for 40% to 45% of India’s two-wheeler sales by FY30.

The company also plans to increase its international presence. Exports currently account for around 15% of sales, and management expects this share to rise to 25% over the next five years as it expands into Europe and Latin America. The new plant could therefore play a key role in supporting both domestic growth and Ultraviolette’s global expansion.
