Piramal Pharma Shares Fall 4% on USFDA Observations

Piramal Pharma fells after the USFDA raised observations at its UK manufacturing site.

Piramal Pharma fell nearly 4% on Tuesday, hitting a day low of Rs 202.55, after the USFDA raised observations at its UK manufacturing site.

Here’s the reason. The US Food and Drug Administration inspected Piramal Pharma’s Morpeth facility in the UK between 3 and 11 September, checking whether it follows Good Manufacturing Practices.

At the end of that inspection, the USFDA issued what’s called a Form 483, listing seven observations. To put that in plain terms, a Form 483 isn’t a final ruling against a company.

It’s simply a list of things the inspectors noticed during their visit that need attention. Piramal Pharma said its seven observations are tied to improvements needed in practices, procedures and documentation, not anything more serious.

The company now has 15 days to send the USFDA a written response explaining how it plans to fix each point.

In its filing, Piramal Pharma said it is already preparing that response and remains committed to meeting compliance standards, working closely with the regulator to close out every observation.

The company also holds a sizeable share of ownership among the public, with regulatory data showing more than 64% of its shares held by public shareholders and the rest with promoters.

It’s worth noting the stock had actually touched a fresh 52-week high of Rs 231.93 just a week earlier, on 8 September. Even after this fall, shares are still up close to 20% since the start of the year.

By the close of trade on Tuesday, Piramal Pharma shares settled at Rs 203.47 on the NSE, down 3.73% from the previous close.
