Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) announced that its board approved a further investment of Rs 65 crore in NTPC BHEL Power Projects Private Ltd (NBPPL), its 50:50 joint venture with NTPC Ltd.
The investment will be made in one or more tranches as BHEL’s equity contribution to the joint venture.
NBPPL was established as a joint venture between BHEL and NTPC and is involved in executing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for power plants and other infrastructure projects. It also manufactures and supplies power equipment in India and overseas markets.
The latest investment is aimed at supporting NBPPL’s financial requirements and maintaining its operations as a going concern. The company is expected to use the additional capital to settle urgent liabilities and strengthen its ability to execute ongoing and upcoming projects. The investment is planned to be completed during FY27.
BHEL’s move comes as the company continues to benefit from increased activity in India’s power sector. In FY26, the company secured power-sector orders worth Rs 59,256 crore, including orders from the thermal power and coal gasification segments.
The development also comes as demand for power infrastructure remains strong in India. Rising electricity consumption and investments in generation capacity are creating opportunities for equipment manufacturers and EPC companies. NBPPL’s focus on power projects could allow BHEL and NTPC to participate in this expanding infrastructure pipeline.
BHEL will retain its 50% stake in NBPPL following the investment, while NTPC will continue to hold the remaining 50%. The equity contribution does not require any change in the existing ownership structure.
The fresh capital infusion also highlights the company’s continued focus on strengthening its presence in India’s power infrastructure market.
