L&T shares touched a day high of Rs 3,745.50 on 5 October, as its power arm bagged mega orders in India, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Its power transmission and distribution arm, known as PT&D, is behind the wins. Several orders, three countries.

L&T places the work in its ‘mega’ bracket, which covers projects worth Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 15,000 crore.

It has not shared the value of each project, so the combined size is unclear. In Saudi Arabia, the firm will build 380 kV power lines and substations.

These are high-voltage links that carry large amounts of electricity over long distances.

The work will add transmission capacity and help bring renewable power into the national grid.

The UAE order covers 132/11 kV substations, which bring power down to levels suited for local use, along with the cabling that goes with them.

Back home, a leading private sector developer has asked L&T to set up a transmission system in Visakhapatnam. It will include power lines and substations.

All of them are EPC contracts. That means L&T designs, makes, supplies, installs and commissions the equipment, from the first drawing to the final switch-on.

The orders widen PT&D’s work in transmission lines, substations, grid strengthening and moving renewable power from where it is made to where it is used.

The wins land on an already full order book. L&T’s consolidated order book stood at a record Rs 7.79 lakh crore on 30 June, up 27% from a year earlier.

New orders in the April to June quarter rose 14% to Rs 1.08 lakh crore. At 11:23 am on NSE, L&T shares traded at Rs 3,730.50, up Rs 37.10 or 1.00% from the previous close.
