Defence Ministry signs ₹661.50 Cr pact with BrahMos Aerospace for Navy ship fire control systems and launchers.
The deal was signed on 6 October in New Delhi, with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh present, the ministry said. The supplier, BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited, is also known as BAPL.
The order covers the fire control system, the equipment that aims and launches the weapon, and the launchers that hold it on board.
BrahMos is the Indian Navy’s primary surface-to-surface missile system for maritime strike operations. It is already fitted on various frontline warships.
It flies at supersonic speed and can hit land and sea targets from long range with pinpoint accuracy, the ministry said.
The contract falls under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category. That label is meant for equipment designed, developed and made in India.
Local content is a big part of the story. The project must carry at least 68% indigenous content, the ministry said.
That should bring in Indian companies, including small and medium businesses, and create jobs over three years.
The ministry called the order a milestone in its push to indigenise advanced military technology.
It also said the deal strengthens India’s maritime security and defence capabilities.
The release does not say how many ships will get the new systems or when deliveries will begin.
The contract fits India’s wider push to design, develop and make more of its defence equipment at home. Ship-based weapons are one of the places where that effort shows up.
