SEPC jumped 11% to a day high of Rs 5.47 on Oct 9 after securing an Rs 854.57 crore steel plant contract from SAIL.
The order was given to SEPC Limited by SAIL’s IISCO Steel Plant at Burnpur, West Bengal. The company will build the civil and structural parts of a new pellet plant, which turns iron ore into the small balls used to make steel.
The full contract price is Rs 951.60 crore. SEPC will pass a tax credit of Rs 97.04 crore on to SAIL, which brings the net value down to Rs 854.57 crore.
The contract took effect on 3 September 2026, and SEPC has 32 months from that date to finish.
The work is part of SAIL’s Burnpur expansion, which is planned to produce 4.08 million tonnes of crude steel a year.
Managing Director Venkataramani Jaiganesh said the focus now moves to execution and delivering on time.
The firm’s order book has crossed Rs 10,000 crore, over nine times its FY26 total income of Rs 1,085.8 crore.
Burnpur is becoming a regular stop for the company. On 15 June, it won a Rs 673.32 crore order from the same plant for coke oven and sinter plant packages. There was legal relief too.
On October 1, SEPC informed exchanges of a Madras High Court ruling dated September 30 that resolved a protracted conflict with award winners through a payment of Rs 149.5 crore.
The company said it involves no direct cash outflow for SEPC. The order frees Rs 154 crore of receivables, which is money customers owe the firm, and lifts all curbs on its bank accounts.
The profit picture is weaker. Although revenue from operations increased by 36% to Rs 274 crore, SEPC recorded a net loss of Rs 11 crore for April and June compared to a profit of Rs 16.5 crore a year earlier.
On NSE, SEPC opened at Rs 4.96 against a previous close of Rs 4.93 and dipped to Rs 4.86 early on. It then climbed to the day high and finished at Rs 5.28, up 7.10%.
The stock is still down about 47% in 2026, and its market value stands near Rs 1,014 crore.
