Odisha launched 53 industrial projects worth Rs 39,383 crore across 14 districts on Wed

Odisha launched 53 industrial projects worth Rs 39,383 crore across 14 districts on Wed, expected to create over 42,000 jobs.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi did the honours on 14 October at a ceremony in Kalinganagar, in Jajpur district. He opened some plants and laid foundation stones for others.

The projects belong to 46 companies, and more than 20,000 people attended, according to sources. Steel and metals lead the list, but the spread is wide.

Chemicals, renewable energy, food processing, textiles, IT, shipbuilding, healthcare and tourism all have projects too.

The state wants industry to grow beyond a few hubs like Kalinganagar, so the projects sit across 14 districts.

Jindal Stainless and its group companies account for Rs 14,039 crore of the total, according to sources.

Tata Steel and Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) have expansions in Jajpur worth Rs 9,067 crore, which the Indian Express says could create 10,500 jobs.

Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys (IMFA) opened a new ferrochrome plant at Kalinganagar, built from scratch. Ferrochrome is a key ingredient in stainless steel.

IMFA says it finished the plant in 458 days and that it now makes the company India’s largest producer of value-added ferrochrome.

Majhi also toured the IMFA and Jindal Stainless sites, where he inaugurated Jindal Stainless’s blast furnace.

Local hiring got a mention. Majhi said he has told industries to give priority to local candidates, for technical and non-technical roles alike. ‘What we commit, we complete,’ he said.

Odisha also collected 14 new investment offers at the event. Twelve are MoUs, which are signed agreements of intent, and two are investment intent forms. Together they carry Rs 4,805.66 crore and a potential 9,170 jobs.

Majhi said the state has now launched 151 projects in total. They represent Rs 3,11,722.46 crore of investment and an expected 2,40,697 jobs.

He said the focus now is on turning signed agreements into factories and jobs.
