Granules India said the US FDA began inspecting its Gagillapur unit in Telangana, which previously received a warning letter in Feb 2025.

The company shared the update on 19 October. In simple terms, officials from the American drug regulator are now at the factory, checking whether it follows the quality and safety rules needed to sell medicines in the United States.

These checks cover how a factory is run, from cleanliness to record keeping. Such visits are routine for plants that ship to that market, but this one follows a formal warning.

The Gagillapur unit is a big one. It can make 26.8 billion finished dosage units a year.

Finished dosage means the medicine is in its final, ready-to-take form, like tablets or capsules.

This visit has history behind it. The US FDA inspected the plant in August and September 2024 and listed six Form 483 observations, which are issues inspectors flag when they spot practices that fall short of the rules.

In February 2025, the regulator followed up with a warning letter, a formal notice that the problems needed fixing.

Since then, Granules has been working through a clean-up programme at the site. The current inspection is the regulator’s chance to see that work for itself.

Other regulators have already looked at the plant. An inspection by Australia’s TGA, a drug regulator like the US FDA, closed in April 2026 with no critical findings.

A clean result in the US could help release pending product approvals tied to the site.

That outcome is not guaranteed, and nothing has been disclosed about how this inspection is going. The inspection has only just begun.

Once inspectors finish, the regulator will decide whether to issue fresh observations or close the visit without any.
