Jio Platforms gathered Rs 8,110 crore from 212 anchor investors at Rs 1,119 a share, ahead of its Rs 30,213 crore IPO opening on 21 October.
Anchor investors are big institutions that commit money before an IPO opens to the public.
Jio’s 212 anchors took about 7.25 crore shares on 19 October, all at the top of the price band. LIC took the biggest slice at Rs 499.98 crore.
New World Fund came next with Rs 486.27 crore, followed by the Government of Singapore with Rs 340.93 crore.
Global giants like BlackRock, Fidelity, Capital Group, T. Rowe Price, Franklin Templeton, and QIA were among the key participants.
Indian mutual funds bought about a third of the anchor book, worth Rs 2,784.96 crore across 95 schemes from 25 fund houses.
Life insurers and pension funds added Rs 1,089.95 crore, as investor appetite vastly outstripped availability.
Reports say institutions bid for more than Rs 2.5 lakh crore, over 30 times the money on offer. Ordinary investors can bid from 21 October to 23 October.
The price band is Rs 1,065 to Rs 1,119 a share. Jio is selling 27 crore shares, about 2.9% of the company after the issue. Every share is new, so no existing owner is selling.
Some shares are set aside. Employees get Rs 500 crore worth, with a discount of Rs 54 a share. Eligible Reliance Industries shareholders get another Rs 2,500 crore.
Jio plans to use up to Rs 27,500 crore, about 91% of the issue, to repay loans at its telecom arm, Reliance Jio Infocomm.
The rest goes to general business needs. Reliance Industries will keep a majority stake after the listing.
Reports put Jio’s value at around Rs 10.3 lakh crore, or $108 billion, at the top of the band.
Jio had 533.3 million subscribers in June 2026 and carried nearly 60% of India’s data traffic, according to reported company figures.
The issue tops Hyundai Motor India’s Rs 27,859 crore offering from October 2024, India’s largest so far.
