NHAI says the Urban Extension Road-II, or UER-II, gives drivers from Chandigarh, Punjab and J&K an easier road link to IGI Airport.

The road ties together three major routes around Delhi: National Highway 44, National Highway 9 and the Dwarka Expressway. NHAI shared the details in a recent post on X.

Drivers coming down from the north get an alternative route to the airport through the link between NH-44 and the Dwarka Expressway. Two branch roads, called spurs, add to the network.

The Sonipat Spur runs 29.6 km and joins the Bawana Industrial Area to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway and the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway.

The link aims to help factory goods move more easily between Delhi and other northern states.

The 7.3 km Bahadurgarh Spur works on a different problem, which is congestion on NH-9. NHAI says it also improves links between Delhi and Haryana.

NHAI also pointed to how the road was built. In a video, it said 10 lakh metric tonnes of landfill waste went into the construction of UER-II.

Separately, NHAI reports that 13.58 lakh tonnes of waste material from Delhi’s landfill sites went into embankments along UER-II and the DND-Sohna corridor. NHAI has also laid out its winter pollution plan for Delhi-NCR.

Across its highways and expressways in the region, it has deployed around 60 water sprinklers and tankers, 14 anti-smog guns, 23 mechanical road sweepers, two tractor-mounted broomers and over 900 workers.

Alok Deepankar, the authority’s technical member, reviewed the work and told teams to sprinkle water regularly, run the smog guns and sweep roads every day.

Officials must monitor the work daily and send progress reports with geo-tagged photographs.

The authority also says it planted about 9.80 lakh plants in the region in FY 2025-26, above its target of 9.52 lakh.

A caution applies. Actual travel time depends on the starting point, the route and the traffic, so drivers should check a navigation app before leaving.
