On 26 Oct, Waterways Leisure Tourism’s Cordelia Cruises began sailing from two Indian ports at once with ships out of Mumbai and Kochi.
Cordelia Sky now sails from Mumbai, while Cordelia Empress works out of Kochi.
The company says it is the first time the cruise line has operated from two Indian homeports together.
The change showed on 23 October. Both ships were handled at Mumbai port that day, and nearly 6,000 guests got on or off across the two vessels.
Cordelia Sky left on its first guest sailing. Cordelia Empress began its trip to Kochi. Sky has 1,002 staterooms.
Across the fleet, trips run from two and three-night weekend cruises to four nights around Lakshadweep, plus five-night journeys to the Maldives and Sri Lanka. Kochi brings something new.
Sailings from there will call at Kavaratti and Minicoy in Lakshadweep, and head to Malé in the Maldives and Colombo in Sri Lanka.
South Indian travellers can now board closer to home. Jurgen Bailom, the line’s president and CEO, said the milestone fits the aim of making cruising a regular holiday choice for Indians.
The company has welcomed more than 800,000 guests since it started in 2021. A third ship, Cordelia Sun, is due in 2027. The expansion follows a busy fortnight.
On 15 October, Waterways Leisure Tourism reported that revenue for the September quarter rose 31% to Rs 1,329 million, or about Rs 133 crore.
According to the same report, Cordelia Sky arrived in Mumbai ahead of schedule on October 9.
The ship lifts the fleet’s overall capacity by about 126%, and the company expects it to start adding revenue in the second half of FY27.
Costs are a watch point. Fuel spending per passenger cruise day climbed sharply in the quarter, and the company responded with a fuel surcharge of $15 to $20 per person per day.
Plans for more ships are already on the table. The company said it is exploring fleet additions beyond Cordelia Sun.
