India’s economy is estimated to have grown by 7.35% in the second quarter of the financial year 2027, according to the Finance Ministry’s latest monthly economic review released on October 29, 2026.
The estimate reflects continued economic activity, supported by industrial production, consumer demand and stronger business activity. The latest projection comes after India recorded economic growth of 7.8% in the first quarter of FY27.
However, the second quarter estimate remains provisional and is based on the ministry’s nowcasting model, which uses recent economic indicators to assess growth.
Several indicators point to continued strength in the economy. Industrial production, electricity consumption, port traffic, Goods and Services Tax collections and automobile sales have supported the latest outlook.
GST collections recorded stronger growth during the quarter, while automobile sales also improved. These trends suggest that consumer spending, business activity and domestic demand continue to support economic expansion.
The ministry expects domestic consumption, investment and recent economic reforms to support growth in the coming months. Healthy bank credit and trade agreements could also help businesses expand and improve exports.
Despite the positive outlook, the ministry has highlighted several challenges. Rising crude oil prices, geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions could increase costs for businesses and put pressure on inflation.
Higher energy prices can affect transportation, manufacturing and household spending. Global financial uncertainty may also influence foreign investment flows and put pressure on the rupee.
The latest estimate indicates that India continues to maintain strong economic momentum despite global challenges. However, sustaining growth will depend on domestic demand, investment activity, stable prices and favourable business conditions.
The official GDP figures for the September quarter will provide a clearer picture of the economy’s performance once the government releases the final data.
