Izmo Microsystems built a domestic pitch detector for military aircraft to replace an imported part facing supply issues.

A pitch detector is a small part with an important job. It tells an aircraft’s navigation system whether the nose is tilted up or down, so the compass readings can be corrected.

Izmo Limited said on 3 November that its semiconductor arm, Izmo Microsystems Pvt Ltd, has finished development and cleared defence qualification.

The part is meant for several military aircraft and helicopters that are in service today. The reason is supply.

The original foreign maker had been sending the part irregularly, which caused trouble for operators, so Izmo Microsystems built a fully compatible Indian replacement to cut the reliance on imports.

The job was harder than it sounds. The company had no access to the original design documents, so it redesigned the electronics using modern technology.

The part was made at the company’s advanced chip packaging facility in Bengaluru, which is recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.

The detector has passed MIL-PRF-38534, a military reliability standard.

The company says the result shows its skills in electronics design, chip packaging and military-grade manufacturing.

Izmo Microsystems says it wants to take the same engineering and manufacturing skills to other corners of defence electronics, as the push for Indian-made equipment grows.

The qualification follows a busy September. In early September, the company began shipping a homegrown radio-frequency chip package for defence use that works at up to 40 GHz.

By mid-September it had displayed silicon photonics modules, which use light to carry data, at SEMICON India 2026. The numbers are moving too.

For the June quarter, the group reported a profit after tax of Rs 12.20 crore, up from Rs 6 crore a year earlier, on revenue of Rs 65.38 crore.

Within that, Izmo Microsystems brought in Rs 9.24 crore, about 2.5 times its quarterly revenue in the second and third quarters of last financial year.
