Citigroup Inc to Hire 6,000 Employees in Asia Region

Over the next three years, the New York-based bank, Citigroup Inc. is embarking on hiring 6,000 young people in Asia to uplift the youth employment, which is a blowout.

On Friday, the bank said that it would offer job training offer for 60,000 youth below the age of 24 across its retail and institutional businesses in the region for over the next three years. Citi and it’s Citi Foundation have pledged for investing $35 million in philanthropic contributions and for improving under employing youths and underserved communities in Asia by 2023.

The largest region by revenue of Citi outside North America is the Asia Pacific, which contributes around 25% global revenue for the bank as per the earnings based on 2020.

“Communities in the Asia Pacific are facing a youth unemployment crisis, especially among low-income and underserved groups, due to the impact of Covid-19,” said CEO of Citi’s Asia Pacific, Peter Babej. The jobs offered in the region would be across different businesses including banking, capital markets and advisory, markets and securities services and consumer banking.

The program offered will be covering a mixture of new positions and annual hiring needs. The hiring would be done across the Asia Pacific Region, but many of the jobs are expected to come in the South East Asia Region.
