On Monday, Mahindra and Mahindra said that starting in December 2024, they would roll out five electric vehicles on their new platform Inglo by 2027. By 2027, the business anticipates EV sales to account for up to 30% of total sales.
The two distinct brand names, XUV and BE, will be used to advertise the five electric SUVs. While Mahindra and Mahindra indicated they planned to capitalise on the XUV brand’s strong market presence to win approval, BE will be a brand-new moniker focused on electric vehicles.
The XUV e8 will launch first in December 2024, followed by the other four vehicles over the following two years.
To achieve its EV goals, Mahindra and Mahindra will work with Volkswagen Team to supply the components for its MEB electrical vehicle design.
Volkswagen and Mahindra approved the collaboration’s legal documents on the side-lines of the Born EV reveal, stating their intention to expand the agreement into a more significant partnership about new car projects, focusing on battery cell production and establishing billing facilities in India.
According to Thomas Schmall, president of Volkswagen Team Parts, the alliance intends to produce more than one million units by 2030.
Anand Mahindra, chairman of Mahindra and Mahindra, said, “We prepare to go huge on electrical four-wheelers than we did in the three-wheeler market, not just in India but also worldwide.” He continued, reiterating the team’s prediction that by 2030, 50% of guest car sales in India will be electrical. “We can and will surely lead the electrical guest car business in India,” he said.
Although rival brands Tata Motors and MG Electric motor India have captured a sizeable piece of the electric vehicle market with a profile of electrical cars derived from their interior burning engine products, Mahindra and Mahindra now do not have electrical SUVs available.
