GAIL Ltd Cuts Gas Supplies by 40 Per Cent

Largest state-owned natural gas processing and distribution company, GAIL (India) Ltd. has cut supplies to its consumers, mainly power and fertiliser companies by nearly about 40 per cent, after the fire broke into an Oil and Natural Gas Corp plant, Livemint reported.

About 60 million standard cubic meters of gas is supplied through GAIL’s northwestern pipeline grid to its consumers in the states of Gujarat, UP, Rajasthan MP and Goa.

“We have cut gas supplies by 40% to our customers. We have notified some customers and are in the process of sending notices to others,” an employee of GAIL said. He said that ONGC is fixing the pipeline and the gas supplies could likely improve from Friday.

NTPC Ltd. has shut down it’s gas-based two power plants a 656-megawatt power plant at Kawas near Hazira and a 657-megawatt Jhanor-Gandhar plant in Gujarat, while the KRIBHCO has reduced its usage capacity, as the companies said. The company after an output cut is trying to arrange gas supplies from local suppliers, said Jadish Prasad Verma, GM for Production at KRIBHCO’s Hazira plant.
