Aditya Birla Capital shares rose over 4% on Thursday, touching a day high of Rs 410.20 after the company announced its entry into gold loans.
Here’s the plan in simple terms. The company’s NBFC arm will start with 200 to 300 dedicated gold loan branches by March 2027, focused on markets it sees as having strong potential.
From there, it wants to scale up to around 1,000 branches over the next three years, building what would essentially become a pan-India network for this business.
The idea is to combine physical branches with digital tools, so customers get both convenience and quick loan approvals, while the company keeps a close eye on transparent pricing and safe handling of the gold that gets pledged.
Rakesh Singh, who heads the NBFC business at Aditya Birla Capital, said the segment is seeing strong structural growth in the country and that this move fits naturally into the company’s broader push into secured lending.
He added that trust matters a lot in this business, since customers are handing over something valuable, and the company plans to build the vertical carefully with proper risk controls in place.
This isn’t happening in isolation. Other big names like Tata Capital and Godrej Capital have also announced plans to get into gold loans recently, as the overall market for loans against gold has nearly doubled over the past year.
On the company’s own numbers, its NBFC arm grew its loan book by 27% in FY26, with disbursements rising 25% and profit before tax up 20% for the year.
By the end of the session, the stock had settled at Rs 409, still closing up 3.28% for the day. The company’s total market value now stands at just over Rs 1.11 lakh crore.
