Aditya Birla Group Commits to Invest Rs 25,000 in Various Businesses of UP

The company will be entering the paint business under the brand name of Birla Opus.

Aditya Birla Group on Friday pledged to invest Rs 25,000 crore across its various operations in Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking at the Global Investors Summit here, Kumar Mangalam Birla said the investment would be in various industries, including cement, metals, chemicals, financial services and renewable energy.

He noted that the seven ventures of the Mumbai-based group have a significant presence in Uttar Pradesh, with more than 30,000 employees and a total investment of Rs 40,000 crore.

Birla said that Uttar Pradesh is setting an example for other states when it comes to building new-age infrastructure or providing effective governance.

He added that it creates enormous opportunities for investors in India and abroad.

“As early investors in the country’s industrial journey, we are excited about the rapid progress the country is making. Today, the country can rightly be considered one of the key players driving India’s journey towards a $5 trillion economy. And as such, Birla said that we are committed to further investments totalling Rs 25,000 crore across our businesses, cement, metals, chemicals, financial services and renewable energy,” Birla said.

Investors have taken note of the changing face of Uttar Pradesh over the past three years to September 2022. He noted that the state had attracted foreign direct investment worth $1.1 billion.

Birla said the state had earlier lagged in industrial development despite having a large consumer base.

“The picture is slowly but dramatically changing. This is thanks to pragmatic and industry-friendly management and the rapid pace of infrastructure development,” he said.

Birla said the scale of the project and the speed of implementation here are remarkable.

“Criss-cut with highway projects, subway projects or new airports, the state is upgrading its infrastructure in transformative ways,” he said.

Birla said the government has also made significant progress on the ease of doing business.

He also pointed out that as a global business group, Aditya Birla Group operates in 36 countries, and he can confidently say that India today stands out from all these countries.

There is perhaps no other country in the world that combines strong democracy, transformational governance, economic thinking, population dynamism and entrepreneurial energy from renewable energy to digital governance, space technology to agricultural innovation, Birla said.
