Agarwal and Other Ousted Twitter Executives Sue the Company for $1 Million

Former Twitter executives filed a $1 million lawsuit seeking reimbursement for costs of litigation.

Former CEO Parag Agarwal and two other former Twitter executives have filed a lawsuit against the social media giant seeking reimbursement for costs related to their former jobs after being ousted from the company by Elon Musk. They claim Twitter owes them over $1 million and is legally bound to pay them.

The court filing outlined various expenses related to inquiries by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) but did not disclose details about the investigations or their status.

Former CFO Ned Segal and Parag Agarwal testified to the SEC in 2022 and have been cooperating with federal authorities. The SEC is investigating whether Elon Musk followed securities rules when he acquired Twitter shares.

Following the release of the ‘Twitter Files’ by Elon Musk, former chief legal officer Vijaya Gadde was called to take part in a US congressional hearing on big tech and free speech. Additionally, she was named as a defendant in a lawsuit where a man claimed to have been “doxed” as a white supremacist while at the company.

Meanwhile, Parag Agarwal, Vijaya Gadde, and Ned Segal were terminated by Musk shortly after he took control of Twitter in October of last year. They contend that Twitter is obliged to reimburse them, but the company has only acknowledged receipt of their receipts.

After taking over Twitter, Musk made sweeping cuts to the employee ranks, raising concerns about the platform’s stability and its ability to combat misinformation and other forms of abuse. There have also been complaints filed accusing Twitter of not paying rent or other bills as Musk seeks to “cut costs like crazy.”

Meanwhile, market trackers report that advertising revenue at Twitter has declined due to concerns over misinformation and hateful content as Musk reduces moderation efforts.
