Stroke care is undergoing a shift as artificial intelligence is increasingly playing a role in accelerating diagnosis and treatment. At the Stroke & AI 2025 conference in New Delhi, clinicians and health-tech experts discussed how AI tools can reduce delays. They also talked about improving hospital workflows and enhancing patient outcomes.

The two-day international event at the India Habitat Centre has brought together neurologists, neurosurgeons, and neurointervention specialists. Physicians, data scientists, and healthcare innovators from India and overseas also participated. The discussions come at a time when stroke remains a major public health challenge in India. This increases the need for faster and more scalable care models.

Experts said AI-driven imaging analysis, predictive tools, and automated triage systems are already helping hospitals. They cut critical timelines such as door-to-needle and door-to-groin times. These improvements allow for quicker identification of stroke type and faster decisions on treatments such as thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy.

Dr Kameshwar Prasad, Chairperson of the conference, said AI has moved beyond pilot projects. It is now supporting real-world clinical decision-making, helping reduce delays and improve precision in advanced procedures.

Organising Secretary Dr Biplab Das noted that the focus is shifting toward integrating AI into routine emergency and neurointervention workflows. Meanwhile, Dr P Vijaya, President of the Indian Stroke Association, highlighted the need for investment in digital infrastructure. Training is also essential to scale AI-supported stroke care, especially in resource-constrained settings.

The conference continues with workshops and discussions on building technology-enabled stroke care models. These models can be scaled across India and globally.
