Airtel Africa has confirmed that London will be the preferred listing venue for the initial public offering (IPO) of its mobile payments business, Airtel Money, in 2026.
The move aims to unlock the value of one of Africa’s largest fintech platforms and give the business access to a broader base of global investors.
The company said a London listing would help attract international institutional investors and support the next phase of growth for Airtel Money. The fintech platform has become a key part of Airtel Africa’s business, offering digital payment, money transfer, and financial services across 14 African countries.
The announcement comes alongside strong quarterly performance from Airtel Money. During the June quarter, the platform’s annualised total processed value (TPV) rose 51.5% to more than $245 billion, while its customer base grew 23.3% year-on-year to 56.5 million users.
The strong growth reflects increasing adoption of digital payments across Africa and reinforces Airtel Money’s position as one of the continent’s leading fintech businesses.
Earlier this year, reports suggested Airtel Africa was targeting a valuation of around $10 billion for Airtel Money and could raise between $1.5 billion and $2 billion through the IPO. The company had initially delayed the listing due to market conditions before confirming London as its preferred destination.
The planned IPO marks an important milestone for Airtel Africa as it looks to expand its digital financial services business.A successful listing would strengthen the company’s balance sheet and provide fresh capital to accelerate its expansion in one of the world’s fastest-growing mobile payments markets.
