Airtel Chairman Urges Government to Reduce Litigation in Telecom

Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal requested the administration to decrease litigation in the telecom space, welcomed the changes, and said that the industry was assured the partnership to give the latest technologies to the country. “I would request the government to reduce the legal actions on the industry. Old cases require to be settled, and the new cases need to be avoided through light-touch regulation,” Mittal said at the India Mobile Congress.

He also requested the telecom industry to collaborate even if we compete. “We need to compete aggressively, but we also need to collaborate on areas like fibre and towers so that through sharing our support, we avoid duplication and lower the cost structures and give digital services at the lowest tariffs in the world,” Mittal said.

“We have passed through a lot of difficulties in the last few years, and the government interference was important to serve the digital goals of Prime Minister Modi,” Mittal added. Concluding his address, Mittal said that we had seen the growth of the telecom sector in India in the last 27 years. In partnership with the centre and the department of telecommunications, I feel the industry was poised to give the country the latest and most refined technologies.
