Airtel to Launch 5G Services by Dec: CEO Vittal

Gopal Vittal, CEO of Airtel.

CEO of Airtel Gopal Vittal reported that Telecom Giant Bharti Airtel plans to set 5G services in motion within a month. The network would have coverage across the key metro cities. In August, Bharti Airtel indicated its plan to roll out 5G services. Also, another telecom giant, Reliance Jio, is preparing to launch its 5G services by Diwali end in key metro cities, including Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai. By 2023 end of Jio is planning to have pan-coverage.

According to Vittal, Airtel’s 5G services would deliver high-speed internet 20 or 30 times higher than the 4G. The service would facilitate network slicing for a certain requirement. For consistent experience working from home, 5G technology would be able to slice the network; for gamers, 5G network would provide cutting-edge internet for smooth gaming experiences.

Mittal unveiled Airtel 5G service plan just after Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani commented that Jio would be offering true 5G services. In an indirect reference to Airtel and Vodafone, Vittal state that they won’t deliver the breakthrough improvement. Vittal also said that Airtel picked a specific 5G technology that serves the widest ecosystem in the world, which means all the 5G smartphones in India working on the Airtel network would function without any glitch.
