Alembic Pharma Gets USFDA Closure for Vadodara Facility

Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd
The regulator issued an EIR, formally communicating the closure of the inspection.

Shares of Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd soared 3% on September 17 after the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) closed its inspection of the company’s bioequivalence facility in Vadodara, Gujarat.

The regulator issued an Establishment Inspection Report (EIR), formally communicating the closure of the inspection. The latest development relates to an unannounced onsite USFDA inspection conducted at the facility from August 31 to September 10, 2026. According to the company’s regulatory disclosure, the inspection concluded without any Form 483 observations.

The Vadodara facility conducts bioequivalence studies, which are an important part of the generic drug development process. These studies help establish whether a generic medicine performs similarly to its reference drug and are required as part of regulatory submissions for generic medicines in markets such as the US.

The clean inspection outcome provides regulatory clarity for the facility and supports the company’s ongoing generic drug development activities. The closure also comes after a July 2026 USFDA warning letter issued to an associated clinical investigator, making the latest inspection outcome relevant to the company’s regulatory monitoring.

Alembic Pharmaceuticals has also been managing other business and regulatory developments. The company recently redeemed commercial papers worth ₹150 crore on their September 11 maturity date, reducing its short-term debt obligations. It also incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary, Alembic Pharmaceuticals Global FZCO, in Dubai in August 2026.

The US remains an important market for Alembic Pharmaceuticals, particularly for its generic drug business. Maintaining compliance at facilities involved in bioequivalence testing is therefore important for supporting future product filings and approvals.

The EIR closure and zero-observation outcome mark a positive regulatory update for the Vadodara facility. Investors will now track the company’s further regulatory developments and progress in its US generic drug pipeline.

At 11:50 am, the shares of Alembic Pharmaceuticals were trading 1.19% higher at Rs 835.20 on NSE.
