Amazon has launched its first water replenishment project in Delhi’s Yamuna basin, aiming to restore over Rs 400 million litres of water annually to help combat the region’s severe water stress.

The project is in partnership with Hasten Regeneration, focusing on groundwater recharge through infrastructure repair and new constructions, such as percolation pits and recharge shafts.

Announced at Amazon’s Water Dialogues 2025 in New Delhi, the event featured support from policymakers and experts, including NITI Aayog and Water Resources Minister C R Patil.

The initiative supports India’s Jal Jeevan Mission, with Patil calling it a strong example of how private companies can contribute to solving India’s water crisis.

Groundwater in Delhi NCR is critically low due to overuse, rapid urbanisation, and poor recharge systems, making such projects urgent and essential.

This is part of Amazon’s wider water conservation efforts in India, including earlier lake restoration projects in 2025 that are expected to replenish over 570 million litres annually.
