Amit Shah Opens Floating Border Post in Bengal’s Sunderbans

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today inaugurated BSF’s floating border post at Hingarganj, West Bengal, Sunderbans, North 24 Pargana District, on his arrival in West Bengal for a two-day visit to mark his first visit after the 2021 Bengal assembly polls.

Mr Shah also interacted with senior Border Security Force (BSF) officials during the event. Officials say the number of floating border posts has been increased to increase surveillance of inaccessible areas of the sandbar. They said the ambulance vessel was intended to provide medical assistance in remote areas of Sunderbans from Saheb Khali to Shamsher Nagar.

Later in the afternoon, Amit Shah will lay the cornerstone of “Maitri Sangrahalaya” – a museum in Haridaspur to raise public awareness of BSF’s involvement in the 1971 Indo-Pakistani war in recognition of heroic deeds. He will also speak at a public meeting in Siliguri in the evening. Amit Shah arrived at the Kolkata airport in the morning, where he was greeted by the opposition leader of the West Bengal assembly Suvendu Adhikari, Union Minister of State for Home Ministry Nisith Pramanik and BJP president Sukanta Majumdar.

“Arriving in Kolkata after a two-day visit to West Bengal, I look forward to attending various events and interacting with my brothers and sisters in Bengal,” Shah tweeted in Bengali.
