On Thursday, AI startup Anthropic launched its most advanced model, Claude Opus 4, claiming it can code for hours without human input.

Backed by Amazon and Alphabet, the company also introduced Claude Sonnet 4, a smaller and more cost-effective version.

According to Anthropic, Claude Opus 4 has coded for up to seven hours during a real use case and even played a Pokémon game for 24 hours straight.

This marks a leap from the earlier Claude model, which could only handle about 45 minutes of continuous tasks.

The company says the new models can switch between giving instant answers or taking time to reason through complex questions.

Anthropic’s Claude Code tool is now generally available for developers after its February preview.
