Apple iPhone Exports from India Cross Rs 10,000 Crore

India's iPhone exports have surged to Rs 10,000 crore in May this year.

India’s Apple iPhone exports have reportedly surged to Rs 10,000 crore in May this year. According to the India Cellular and Electronics Association, the total value of iPhone exports from India for April and May 2023 crossed Rs 20,000 crore, more than double the value in the same period last year.

Manufacturing of iPhones by Apple’s contract manufacturers in India tripled to $7 billion, leading to a nearly four times jump in the export of Apple iPhones from India to cross $5 billion in FY2023.

Some of the vendors in India of the California-based company include Foxconn, Wistron, Tata Group, Salcomp, Avery, and Jabil. India exports these iPhones to several countries, such as the UK, Italy, France, the Middle East, Japan, Germany, and Russia.

Apple is diversifying its supply chains out of China due to geopolitical tension between the US and China. It is shifting its focus towards India, driven by the country’s Production-linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for smartphones.

India may emerge as a new potential hub for luxury handsets. India accounts for approximately 5-7% of Apple’s overall component manufacturing production. By 2025, the figure is predicted to rise to 25%.
