Apple Music Installs Itself Into iPhone Dock, Kicks Out Apps Like Spotify

When the Apple Music iOS app started installing directly to the iPhone’s Dock instead of the home screen after downloading, some iPhone users found themselves in a fix and launched other apps, including music streaming service Spotify. According to TechCrunch, the vulnerability affects different iPhone models, kicking other apps out and taking their place in the Dock at the bottom of the iPhone screen. Apple said it was investigating the issue.

“Looks like if you download the Apple Music app from the App Store, it will automatically appear on your device (iPhone) Dock; not only that, but it will also change any other third-party app with the music app. If you have the Apple app in your In Dock and it doesn’t do anything,” iOS developer Kevin Archer tweeted Thursday night.

iPhone users also discovered that the bug caused Apple Music to launch Spotify as the default music service for Siri requests. Epic is already in a protracted antitrust lawsuit with Apple. The Apple Music app replaces various apps in the user’s Dock, including first-party apps like the built-in camera app. Apple Music even removed the Safari browser app from the iPhone dock.
