Aurobindo Pharma Gains 2% After US Plant Clears FDA Review

Aurobindo surges after a US-based unit, Aurolife Pharma, cleared an FDA plant inspection with VAI status.

Aurobindo Pharma shares gained 2% on Monday morning after a US-based unit, Aurolife Pharma, cleared an FDA plant inspection with VAI status.

The gain follows news that a US manufacturing site tied to the company has come through a regulatory inspection cleanly, which is generally read as good news for a pharma stock’s export pipeline.

Here’s what actually happened. The plant in question is in Raleigh, North Carolina, and it’s run by Aurolife Pharma LLC.

Aurolife sits below Aurobindo Pharma Limited in the group structure as a step-down subsidiary, essentially a subsidiary of a subsidiary.

The Raleigh facility makes inhalers along with dermatology and transdermal products, the latter being medicines delivered through the skin.

The FDA inspected this site over several weeks last year, from 24 March to 10 April 2025. At the end of that inspection, the agency issued a Form 483 listing 11 observations.

That’s a standard part of the process and doesn’t by itself mean much. What matters more is the classification that follows once the company responds and the FDA reviews the fixes.

That classification has now come through. The FDA has issued an Establishment Inspection Report marking the facility “Voluntary Action Indicated,” or VAI, and has closed the inspection.

In plain terms, the regulator found some issues but isn’t pursuing formal enforcement action.

Aurobindo told exchanges this means pending applications for inhalers and other products made at the site can now move ahead through the FDA’s review pipeline.

This isn’t the only US-facing update from the company this month. On 14 August, Aurobindo flagged a separate and more serious issue.

A formulation unit belonging to Eugia Pharma Specialities, another subsidiary, received a Warning Letter after being classified “Official Action Indicated,” a step above VAI in severity.

That unit accounts for roughly 2% of the group’s total revenue, and the company said its existing US supplies from that facility haven’t been disrupted.

Aurobindo Pharma stock has gained more than 36% so far this year. As of 9:30 am, the stock is trading at Rs 1,646 up 1.47%.
