Bhavish Aggarwal Invests Rs 2,000 Crore in Krutrim AI, Unveils Nvidia-Backed Supercomputer

Krutrim unveiled its latest AI models.

Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal has announced a Rs 2,000 crore investment in his AI startup Krutrim, with a further commitment of Rs 10,000 crore by next year. He also introduced the Krutrim AI Lab, which is dedicated to advancing AI technologies and research.

As part of the initiative, Krutrim unveiled its latest AI models, including Krutrim 2, a vision language model for visual data processing, a speech-language model for voice interactions, and a text-to-text translation model to enhance multilingual communication.

Aggarwal shared on X that the company is open-sourcing its AI models and releasing technical reports to improve AI solutions tailored for India, focusing on language diversity, data scarcity, and cultural nuances.

To bolster its computational capabilities, Krutrim partnered with Nvidia to deploy India’s first GB200 supercomputer, which is expected to be operational by March. Aggarwal emphasized plans to make it the largest supercomputer in India by year-end.

The decision to open-source Krutrim’s AI models reflects a global trend following the success of Chinese startup DeepSeek, whose cost-efficient AI development prompted many companies to adopt similar strategies.

While Aggarwal acknowledged that Krutrim’s models are still developing and not yet at global benchmarks, he expressed optimism that open sourcing-would foster innovation and contribute to a robust AI ecosystem in India.
