Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar transferred more than Rs 456 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 6.51 lakh families. These families were affected by the recent floods on Wednesday.
According to the Chief Ministerβs Office (CMO), each flood-hit family received Rs 7,000 as gratuitous relief. The transfer was carried out at a function held at the CMβs official residence in Patna.
βIn total, Rs 456.12 crore was transferred to the accounts of 6,51,602 families. This occurred across 12 flood-affected districts,β the CMO said in its statement.
The Chief Minister had recently raised the gratuitous relief amount from Rs 6,000 per family to Rs 7,000. The floods, caused by torrential rain over the past 24 hours, have affected a large number of people across the state of Bihar.
The worst-hit districts include Bhojpur, Patna, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Khagaria, Bhagalpur and Katihar.
Nitish Kumar also instructed officials to remain vigilant. Heavy rain is expected in September. The meeting was attended by Disaster Management Minister Vijay Kumar Mandal, Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, Development Commissioner Pratyaya Amrit, Principal Secretary of the Water Resources Department Santosh Kumar Mall, and other senior state officials.
