Cabinet has cleared new civil aviation policy, 5/20 rule has been abolished

A new civil aviation policy has been cleared by the Cabinet on Wednesday with some changes in the rules.

A senior aviation ministry official has said that “The Cabinet has cleared it. Yes, some changes have been made (in the draft policy circulated for opinion from stakeholders). The minister will brief you later today.”

The rule 5/20 has been replaced by the 0/20 rule that makes its mandatory for an airline to have at least 20 aircraft to fly on overseas route.

The new rule aims to boost growth prospects of new airlines as they would now require no domestic flying experience to operate on overseas route.

The 5/20 rule mandates airlines of having five years of domestic operations with a fleet of at least 20 aircraft for becoming eligible for flying overseas.
