The Centre has sanctioned Rs 840.41 crore to upgrade a 45 km stretch of NH-365BB in Andhra Pradesh.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced the approval on X. The project covers two sections of the highway, the Buttaigudem-LND Peta stretch and the Pattiseema-Kovvur stretch, together running 45.09 km. Both will be converted into two-lane roads with paved shoulders.

Why does this particular stretch matter so much? It runs right through a region tied closely to the Polavaram Irrigation Project. Once the upgrade is done, access to Polavaram and the villages around it should get a lot smoother, which matters for the thousands of people who depend on that project for water and irrigation.

There’s also a farming angle here. The area grows a fair amount of tobacco, sugarcane and palm, and better roads mean farmers can get their produce to markets faster and without as much loss along the way. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu pointed this out directly, thanking Gadkari and noting that aqua farmers in the region stand to benefit too.

Beyond agriculture, the upgrade is expected to strengthen trade links between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Commuters and businesses moving goods across the state border should see quicker, more reliable travel once construction wraps up.

There’s a timing element worth mentioning as well. The upgraded highway will also improve access to important ghats along the Godavari River.

This becomes especially relevant ahead of the Godavari Pushkaralu in 2027, a major pilgrimage event that draws large numbers of devotees and visitors to the region every twelve years.

Naidu described the project as part of a broader push toward infrastructure-led growth in Andhra Pradesh, crediting both the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for backing it.

Gadkari, for his part, said the upgrade would support tourism, trade, agriculture and overall economic activity in the districts it passes through, alongside making daily travel easier for local commuters.
