India is stepping up its response amid rising tensions in West Asia. The government has called an all-party meeting on 24th March (Wednesday) to discuss the situation and build a unified political stance. This follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to Parliament. In his speech, he said the conflict’s global impact could persist for a long time.

He urged the country to remain prepared and united, as it did during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, he highlighted concerns about fuel and fertiliser costs, national security, and the safety of Indians living in the region.

Modi emphasised that the government is working to ensure that ordinary families face minimal disruption. Moreover, support systems need to remain in place for Indian nationals abroad. He also reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way forward. India remains focused on de-escalation.

The opposition, including the Indian National Congress, criticised the government for not directly condemning US-Israeli air strikes on Iran. They called the statement inadequate.

At the same time, the prime minister underlined the importance of West Asia for India. Nearly one crore Indians live and work in Gulf countries. In addition, a significant number are employed in global shipping routes. He stressed that a united voice from Parliament is essential as the situation continues to evolve.
