Chandigarh Airport Named After Bhagat Singh

Chandigarh international airport here was renamed Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport.

Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this regard, the Chandigarh international airport here was renamed Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport on Wednesday on the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.

The event’s chief guest, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, said she was honoured to be present at the event and thanked PM Modi for his decision to put the iconic freedom fighters renamed the airport.

“Through these small gestures, we are honouring the enormous sacrifices made by young men and women like Shaheed Bhagat Singh in the freedom fight,” she said.

Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Union Minister VK Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij and Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher attended the event.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann also thanked Modi for renaming the airport and seeking more international flights. PM Modi announced on his Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast on Sunday that the airport would be named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh in tribute. Wednesday was Bhagat Singh’s 115th birthday.
