ChargeZone and Fresh Bus have expanded their existing partnership, with Fresh Bus planning to add 400 electric buses to ChargeZone’s charging network.
The expansion will increase the Fresh Bus fleet supported by ChargeZone infrastructure from 100 to 500 electric buses, strengthening the companies’ presence in India’s intercity electric mobility market.
The expanded operations are planned over the next 15 months and will connect 20 cities and 17 additional towns across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The move will allow Fresh Bus to expand its intercity electric bus services across several major southern routes.
To support the additional fleet, ChargeZone will deploy 30 MW of new charging capacity. This will be added to the existing 10 MW dedicated charging infrastructure, taking the total charging capacity available for Fresh Bus to 40 MW.
The additional charging infrastructure is also part of ChargeZone’s wider plan to add around 200 MW of charging capacity across its national network. The company currently operates more than 15,000 charging points across over 1,200 locations in India and the UAE.
At full scale, the expanded partnership is expected to deliver around 100 million units of electricity annually and support more than 20,000 passenger journeys every day. The companies estimate that the electric bus network could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 9,000 to 10,000 tonnes annually.
The partnership is significant for India’s commercial EV market because intercity buses have high daily utilisation and travel long distances. This makes reliable, high-capacity charging infrastructure essential for operators looking to replace diesel buses with electric alternatives.
Fresh Bus has been expanding its electric intercity operations, while ChargeZone is building charging infrastructure specifically for commercial EV fleets. Their expanded partnership therefore combines fleet expansion with charging availability, addressing one of the biggest challenges in scaling electric public transport.
For the broader EV ecosystem, the development highlights the growing investment in electric buses, high-capacity charging networks and commercial mobility infrastructure.
