OpenAI’s ChatGPT is experiencing explosive global growth, with users now sending more than 2.5 billion prompts every day, according to data first reported by Axios on 21st July. Out of these, over 330 million prompts come from users in the United States.

This marks a significant increase from December 2024, when OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed that ChatGPT was receiving over 1 billion daily queries — meaning usage has more than doubled in just eight months.

India has now become OpenAI’s second-largest and fastest-growing market. The number of active users in the country has more than tripled over the past year, highlighting the rapid rise in adoption.

Despite ChatGPT’s impressive growth, it still lags behind Google Search in overall volume. Alphabet, Google’s parent company, hasn’t revealed daily search numbers, but it has recently shared that it handles around 5 trillion searches annually — which works out to nearly 14 billion searches a day.

Independent estimates back this up: NP Digital’s Neil Patel pegs the figure at 13.7 billion daily searches, while SparkToro and Datos estimate it at about 16.4 billion per day.
