Chinese Foreign Minister Arrives in India

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in India on Thursday evening after the relations fell under some severe stress due to the eastern Ladakh standoff nearly two years ago. Wang flew to New Delhi from Kabul and is ready to hold talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval.

The minister’s visit is related to the geopolitical strategy after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and China, showing its enthusiasm to assist Moscow in dealing with economic sanctions. In the talks, India is doubtful to shift its focus from the eastern Ladakh border row as it is expected to push for the withdrawal of troops from all the first points in the region.

The border issue can figure out in the meeting between Wang and Doval, who has been serving as the special representatives for boundary talks. Both sides kept the visit under the wraps. It is not clear if the Indian side will facilitate a call on by Wang with PM Narendra Modi.
