Coal India shares touched a day high of Rs 426.35 on 1 October, up 0.3%, as the miner reported a 9.2% jump in September coal production.
Coal India Limited filed its September production and offtake numbers with the exchanges on Thursday.
The data is provisional. Offtake means the coal that customers actually lift from its mines.
September was a strong month. The miner produced 53.5 million tonnes of coal, up from 49 million tonnes a year ago.
Offtake did better still. Customers picked up 61.2 million tonnes, compared with 54.4 million tonnes last September, a rise of 12.5%.
The six-month picture is more mixed. Production from April to September came to 321 million tonnes, down 2.5% from 329.1 million tonnes a year earlier.
Offtake for the same period rose 7.6% to 384.2 million tonnes. Two of its units led the monthly gains.
Western Coalfields raised output 85.5%, from 2.2 million tonnes to 4.1 million, while Central Coalfields grew 27.5%, from 4.5 million tonnes to 5.7 million.
Coal India has set a production target of 815 million tonnes for the year. It has reached about 39% of that so far, and the rains usually slow output in the first half.
On the payout side, NSE lists a dividend of Rs 5.25 a share with an ex-date of 4 September, and an interim payout of Rs 5.50 a share with an ex-date of 31 July.
On 29 September, the company also filed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with the exchanges.
At 13:07 pm, Coal India shares traded at Rs 423.45 on NSE, down by 0.36%.
Its market value stands at about Rs 2,60,961 crore, and it sits below its 52-week high of Rs 491.25.
